“The Fight”, the Event, and the Full Backstory – Frazier and Ali Meet Center-Ring to Make History 🥊🥊📽️

Are we looking at the single greatest sporting event of all time here❓ perhaps so….after all, it showcased two legendary Heavyweights, and a rivaling 📻backstory, during an era where expression within the black community became a paramount staple, and both men went about conveying their thoughts and themselves in contrasting ways.

The great 👑🥇🇺🇸Muhammad Ali (31-0-0, 26KO👊) was on a mission after making his return back to the sport, after his boxing license was taken away due to his reasoning as to why he refused to partake in the Vietnam War.  Subsequently, as a result of his decision, he was stripped of his RING, WBA and WBC Titles, and was no longer deemed as the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion – 📍A moniker that he had held onto for three years, during a nine title defense stint, one that he breezed through as a virtually untouched commodity as he had no equal between the four ring posts.

As Ali’s departure from boxing became a reality, the titles became vacant, made available for the next King to stand up.  👑🥇🇺🇸“Smokin” Joe Frazier (26-0-0, 23KO👊), after winning a Gold-Medal at the 1964 ◯‍◯‍◯‍◯‍◯🇯🇵Tokyo Olympics – quickly blazed a trail through the competition at the pro ranks, and put himself into position for a shot at the Undisputed Heavyweight Title.  During the post-Ali era, it was 🇺🇸Jimmy Ellis who would first win that vacant WBA belt after he defeated 🇦🇷Oscar Bonavena, and it was Ellis that Frazier would have to get through in order to fully take over the helm, to hold the mantle. Radar Meets Hands of Stone, As Two Legends Collide for Combat 📼

Right after 👑🇵🇷Wilfred “El Radar” Benitez (45-1-0, 28KO👊) defeated future Titlist Carlos Santos, on this day, 🗓️January 30th, 1982, a  living legend was next up for Benitez, that being “Manos de Piedra” himself, 👑🇵🇦Roberto Duran (74-2-0, 56KO👊), who was vying for Benitez 2nd defense of his WBC Super-Welterweight World Title.  Duran was widely regarded as the greatest Lightweight Champion of all time, and after his reign, he continued up the ranks in weight, trying to become a 3-division Titlist himself. All great things must come to an end, and what took place on this date, 🗓️January 29th, 1994, “El Gran Campeón” 👑🇲🇽Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (89-0-1, 77KO👊) had his 89 win, unbeaten reign snapped as he lost his first fight to enigmatic, talented boxer 👑🇺🇸Frankie “The Surgeon” Randall (48-2-1, 39KO👊), who lifted the RING & WBC Junior-Welterweight Titles away from the mighty Mexican warrior. Demolition in Jamaica🏗️ – George Foreman Thoroughly Dismantles Joe Frazier to Become the Brand New Heavyweight Champion of the World

The legendary 👑🥇🇺🇸“Smokin'” Joe Frazier (29-0-0, 25KO) stood as the reigning Heavyweight World Champion for three years, flying high after delivering 👑🥇🇺🇸Muhammad Ali his 1st defeat and putting to rest who the man was in the division. 

On this date, 🗓️January 22nd, 1973, in Kingston, Jamaica, Joe entered his Title fight a 3½-to-1 favorite over young Olympic Gold-Medalist 👑🥇🇺🇸George Foreman (37-0-0, 34KO), who was making his first attempt at the big time, and damn did he deliver that day, frightening the boxing world and destroying one of it’s truly great Champions.
