Some people are born with talent who are unable to harness it, and some have natural abilities that can be 🔑unlocked through repetition and hard work. There are also those who classify as prodigies, whose talent overrides the natural progression that one is supposed to take in harnessing those skills, which enables everything to come easy for them. That there describes 👑🇺🇸🇵🇷Wilfred “El Radar” Benitez (53-8-1, 31KO👊) to a “T”. He was as natural a talent that boxing has ever seen, with nearly unrivaled defensive capabilities. These days, when you see the President of the Japanese Boxing Association, that being Masahiko Harada (better known as 👑🇯🇵Fighting Harada (55-7-0, 22KO👊)), you see a distinguished, quiet, jovial 76 year old man whose default facial expression is that of a smile and 🪞deep reflection – one who looks the part of being the least threatening man in the room if you were to base your assessments heavily weighing on aesthetics. Talking Legends:📽️ Archie Moore

Relentless, menacing, driven, as well as physically and mentally imposing, “The Mongoose” 👑🇺🇸Archie Moore (186-23-10, 132KO👊) cemented himself as a legend among legends, and was one of the best fighters of the Golden-Age in the 1950’s. Moore was well known for his cross-armed defense and relentless nature in pressuring fighters to systematically break them down round by round. He had impeccable power, evidenced by his 132 KO’s, which stands as the second highest knockout total in boxing history. Continue reading “Talking Legends:📽️ Archie Moore”

Talking Legends:📽️ “Sweet Pea” Pernell Whitaker

Some fighters defy logic with the way they’re able to see events 5 steps ahead of everyone else, whose reaction time is as quick as the flick of a light switch, and can adapt to anything presented in front of them with a natural acumen to their craft.

In boxing, I don’t think there’s a better example in the last half a century of this than the great 🥇🇺🇸Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker (40-4-1, 17KO👊), who had the greatest reflexes displayed since the great Nicolino Locche, and superseded Locche’s ability by being able to counter routinely off of those insane angles and pivots that he would use to evade the onslaught of punches. “Sweet Pete” had very strong legs, which enabled him to cover a lot of ground which made his defensive acumen even scarier, and was the foundation of his overall attack.
