When it comes to a 🇿🇼🇬🇧Dereck “War” Chisora (32-12-0, 23KO) fight, you know exactly what to expect…..heart exhibited, bombs being thrown, physicality, a bit of showmanship, and a stern test when he’s in against the elite. He provided that yet again, and that’s why he has so fan support as the Chief Gatekeeper of the division.
Well in his rematch against 🇼🇸🇳🇿Joseph Parker (30-2-0, 21KO), this was the first time in many years that Dereck was getting manhandled and bounced around the ring in many different spots of the action, getting hurt multiple times by the same uppercuts that he would duck down into, and the straight right hand jarred him throughout the contest.
Chisora tasted the canvas three times in rounds 4, 7 and 8…with each time him getting up, and willingly walking over to the corner where he oddly does his best work, to exchange, and get himself somewhat back in the fight. Unlike the first bout, Parker was able to gain separation with his class, and won a comfortable decision in terms of the action.
The scorecards were too close for what transpired in the ring, but the right man at the end of the day got his hand raised. Parker still had to work hard for it, as Chisora came with the pressure, and power, but Joseph did what he had to do.
There are some increasingly growing echoes from fans and friends that Chisora at the age of 37 should at least consider the prospects of retirement after taking the beating that was administered by the New Zealander, and falling behind the rest of the crop. Chisora in the only way he knows how however stated on social media that retirement is not on his mind at all, and that he will return in the summer of 2022.
As stated in the lead-up to the fight, a loss here for Parker would have been a career damager to the zenith, so he fought with a different vigor in this one, and he left no doubts this time around. Well done for Lupesoliai La’auliolemalietoa…who can now entertain the elites of the division once again. What will follow for him? Well, the name 🇭🇷Filip Hrgovic has now entered the equation.
