I don’t believe that we have ever encountered a fight with the amount of delays that have shelved this particular contest – and frankly…it’s not even a bout that we collectively care about in order to warrant time wasted & how it stagnated the division…but after all, it is an 🔴IBF title eliminator, and Aussie 🇦🇺George Kambosos Jnr. (19-0-0, 10KO) has waited in line towards getting his shot.
The man that holds all of the highest ranking title belts in every recognized sanctioning body at Lightweight is New York’s 🇺🇸Teofimo “Takeover” Lopez Jr. (16-0-0, 12KO). Spending so much time out of the ring merely reflects the level of problems (most notably on Teofimo’s end) in actually getting to the fight, but at last, the time is here.
George Kambosos Jnr. found himself in the position of a mandatory opponent in the IBF rankings after his controversial decision over former world Featherweight titlist 🇬🇧Lee Selby in a bout that took place on Halloween of 2020. It is safe to say that George, and Teofimo do not like each other at all in the slightest bit, and it shows every time they’re anywhere near a proximity circumference of 200 feet.
They on Saturday, November 27th will finally take their anger to the boxing ring (fingers crossed towards getting to fight night) to get this saga over with once and for all. New York City continues its slow resurgence towards getting back to hosting major fight events, and this will take place at the famed Madison Square Garden in the HULU Theater. Given the circus surrounding who would host it over the last few months, 💻DAZN has won the rights to broadcast it.
