Amanda Serrano With Consistent Pursuit Punishes Outgunned Yamileth Mercado For Decision

Puerto Rican sensation ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ทAmanda “Real Deal” Serrano (41-1-1, 30KO๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘Š) is one of the best women boxers on the planet. There is actually a healthy contingent of fans out there who believes that she is the โš“#1 P4P fighter on the women’s side of the bracket. Tonight she faced off against current reigning WBC Super-Bantamweight world titlist ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝYamileth Mercado (18-3-0, 5KO๐Ÿ‘Š) of Mexico moving up, for what was the Co-Main event of a PPV card. Serrano successfully defended her WBC, and WBO Featherweight Titles.

The smaller Mercado must’ve felt the power early, because she fought large chunks of the 10 rounds at a distance, using much of the real-estate in the ring, while Amanda took the approach of methodically stalking her all night, and took much of her steam away with a consistent body attack.

Periodically Mercado tried to lunge and land from a distance, often falling short of the mark, and didn’t use many angles to get around the imposing reach of Serrano. Amanda’s power jab did a serious ๐Ÿฉนnumber to the left side of Mercado’s face, causing heavy swelling around the left eye, and opening a major ๐Ÿฉธgash on the cheek, essentially blending with the damage accumulation of the cut that was caused down below.

Amanda did her most damage in the 10th and ๐Ÿ›Ž๏ธfinal round when she raked Yamileth with a strong left cross by the ropes that wobbled her badly, but Mercado did just enough to survive and finish the fight remaining on her feet.

The scorecards were too close ๐Ÿ“(97-93, 98-92, 99-91) as this was realistically a shutout performance in favor of Serrano, and with the decision victory, she defended her WBC/WBO Featherweight world titles. Mercado is a titlist at Super-Bantamweight, so though she had a rough night, she can go back to her domain as an active champion, and continue forth with what she set out to do in the 122 lb. class.

The question arose in the post-fight press conference about Amanda Serrano’s desire to fight P4P / Undisputed World Lightweight Champion ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชKatie Taylor. Serrano stated that she is dying to get that fight, but wants to become Undisputed Featherweight Champion first, and then fight Taylor (presumably Taylor still holding all 5 Lightweight belts), with Serrano wanting to claim G.O.A.T. status by retiring as a double Undisputed Champion simultaneously in different weights, and defeating a legend to do so in her vantage point. Certainly a fight between the two legendary female fighters, especially in that capacity should surely crown the victor of that bout as the ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ”ฑhistorical pinnacle of women’s boxing.
