It’s a major step up in class for the 26 year old Featherweight 🇵🇭Mark Magsayo Saturday night. The unbeaten Filipino, who fights under the MP Promotions banner of fellow countryman Manny Pacquiao, gets to live out his dream and fight as the main undercard bout to his idol.
Like Pacquiao, Magsayo (22-0-0, 15KO) is developing under the watchful eye of renowned trainer Freddie Roach. This is the second time he and Roach have worked together, shortly doing so in 2015. Roach has stated that Magsayo has matured a ton since their first stint together and is one of the best fighters in Wild Card gym, but still has to get better with combinations and power punches.
Magsayo will square off against former WBC Super-Bantamweight champion 🇲🇽Julio Ceja (32-4-1, 28KO) of Mexico. In his last outing Magsayo stopped Houston, Texas native Pablo Cruz in the fourth round of a scheduled eight round bout on the Jaron Ennis/Sergey Lipinets card.
As for Ceja, the 12 year veteran is on a slide as he is 0-2-1 in his last three bouts, most recently fighting to a split decision draw with Brandon Figueroa in 2019.
This is a WBC Featherweight title eliminator and gets the winner mandatory challenger status with current champion 🇺🇸Gary Russell Jr. Magsayo is currently ranked #5 by the WBC. This fight is Pay Per View and is being held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
