The Moloney’s weren’t the only set of twins to have fought bouts yesterday evening. Power punching Nicaraguan IBF Junior-Flyweight world titlist 🇳🇮Felix “El Gemelo” Alvarado (37-2-0, 32KO) found himself competing on the Ortiz Jr./Kavaliauskas undercard. His title was not on the line, so this was a tune-up of sorts in his case, as he fought Puerto Rico’s 🇵🇷Israel Vazquez (10-5-2, 7KO
).
Both got down to business from the opening bell, with Vazquez landing a clean right hand on the button, and a couple of solid combinations, while Alvarez busted through with a few clean combos of his own in 50-50 skirmishes.
Vazquez to his credit is a very tough fighter who stood in there, but the Champ is equally as tough, with iron in both fists to go with it, and a good IQ to get the power to land.
What Vazquez didn’t realize is that Alvarado also possesses a great motor, so as the Puerto Rican fighter tired from trading leather, Alvarado kept going, and never let up once he hurt Israel, and continually buzzed him. Felix punctuated his work with a straight left hand that dropped Vazquez like a slab of bricks, with dynamite effect.
Vazquez did get up to beat the count somehow, but his eyes were glazed over, his full attention wasn’t there, and he didn’t look like he wanted any more smoke. The Referee took note of it, and waived the bout off for an Alvarado 1st round TKO.
