Today, we have learned that a physical exam revealed a detached left-retina injury for WBC/IBF Welterweight Titlist 🇺🇸Errol Spence Jr. (27-0-0, 21KO), thus his involvement in his tangle-up with 🇵🇭Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39KO) being shelved to the side on Errol’s accord, which means that arguably the biggest fight in boxing already inked for 2021, will fall to the wayside.
Disappointment aside, they have had a very credible secondary option step up to the plate considering the news, and with that, the scheduled August 21st date will still be in place, with Pacquiao still going up for a major world title opportunity. Current WBA Welterweight Titlist 🥉🇨🇺Yordenis Ugas (26-4-0, 12KO) was supposed to fight as the co-main event on the exact same Spence/Pacquiao card, so he is in shape, and was ready to take on his assignment.
He will take the Pacquiao fight on short notice, and this will certainly be the biggest opportunity of Ugas career going against the Filipino legend. Pacquiao is still in line to possibly become a 5X Welterweight Titlist if he were to win it.
We haven’t received any word yet whether the card will be pulled off of Pay-Per-View, to be rescheduled for a regular PBConFOX coverage, but it does seem likely that will be the rollout, but we cannot say for certain without confirmation. Once again, the date remains the same, but the opponent changes, and a different world title will be on the line, that being Ugas WBA Welterweight World Title belt
