A while back, former WBO Heavyweight Titlist 🇦🇺Joseph Parker (28-2-0, 21KO) had to pull out of a potential fight with fearsome Heavyweight gatekeeper 🇿🇼🇬🇧Dereck “War” Chisora (32-10-0, 23KO) due to a spider-bite…of all things to derail a bout that promised combat.
They were both willing to re-negotiate, and agreed upon a fight in a gentleman manner through the use of Face-Time via their phones, and the contracts were drawn up, signed, and they are set to go to battle this Saturday, as the headliner bout on the stacked DAZN card.
Parker’s previous bout was an all New-Zealand affair against unbeaten 🇦🇺Junior Fa, who gave Parker more than a handful of problems, but Parker received the nod over Fa by decision. The last time Chisora was in the ring, he gave a proper test to former Cruiserweight Undisputed Champion 🇺🇦Oleksandr Usyk. Though this was technically Usyk’s second fight at Heavyweight, Chisora was his true welcoming opponent. Chisora fought well, and overwhelmed in spots with his brute strength, but Usyk’s craft, and adaptability carried him through for the victory.
There are newer faces in both Chisora and Parker’s corners, as Parker is now paired with Trainer Andy Lee, and Chisora has inked a new partnership with acclaimed Trainer James “Buddy” McGirt. For Chisora’s sake, it’s tough for a 37 year old to alter his approach, but McGirt has specialized in doing so throughout his coaching career. Tune in to see two of the tougher current Heavyweights go at it.
