Pretty much, we got the result that we had all expected. At the 🏟️Hardrock Stadium in Miami, Florida, Super-Middleweight Champion of the World Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (55-1-2, 37KO) defended his RING, WBA & WBC Super-Middleweight World Titles for the first time as he made easy work of mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim (21-3-0, 12KO) ,who gave no resistance against the Champion, and didn’t do himself any favors going forward in his professional career. In actuality, this was truly a showcase so that Canelo & Eddie Hearn could reveal the big news that May 8th is booked for a Unification bout. Who will it be against?…..
Canelo against Yildirim put forth a concerted effort to 🎯target the body with the left hook to the liver, and the right hand to the pit of the stomach. By round 2, Yildirim had nothing to offer, and resembled a heavy-bag, as the cement-footed challenger was reluctant to throw anything, as Canelo had him confused throughout, making him pay in every situation.
Canelo has razor sharp in landing the shadow uppercut, faking with the right hand, to get the left uppercut to get through right behind it, to the jaw. Canelo Alvarez landed a stiff 1-2 combination to knock the bigger Yildirim down to the canvas in round 3. Yildirim got up, but Canelo methodically landed, further punishing the Turkish fighter until the round ended.
In the corner, Yildirim’s Head-Trainer 🥋Joel Diaz showed care, understanding his fighter was getting pulverized, and asked him to show him something in the next round, otherwise he would stop it. The Doctor gave Yildirim a long look over, but it was somebody from Yildirim’s camp back home that stepped up to stop the fight, thus Canelo picking up his 55th win by way of Technical Knockout.
It was a very easy night for Canelo, as he had a harder time taking the 🥊🥊gloves off, than he did fighting the actual fight. To put into full context how the fight was, the post-fight interview with Canelo, DAZN head honcho 🕴️Eddie Hearn, and 🎤Chris Mannix was longer than the actual bout. The truth of the matter is though, that this night was really a smokescreen, for what was the real news of the night, that was released.
CANELO ALVAREZ NEXT BIG MOVE IN THE SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION
On May 8th, we will see 4 of the 5 title belts on the line, as Canelo (RING/WBA/WBC) will fight against undefeated WBO Titlist 🇬🇧Billy Joe Saunders (30-0-0, 14KO). The venue has yet to be agreed upon, but the contracts are drawn up, and signed, and of course it will take place on 💻DAZN. One way to look at tonight in a better context was that Canelo gave the public a little action simply as a precursor to the news of the night that would grab the attention of the boxing world, and just like that, the talk of the town will now be of Canelo’s next fight, instead of the one that just took place – big fight on the way coming 🗓️May 8th.
