December 19th marks the day where the two Kings of their own respective divisions go for the gusto against one another. Middleweight Champion of the World Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KO👊) will continue getting time in at 168 lbs, and goes for the top of the division by battling RING/WBA Super-Middleweight World Champion
Callum “Mundo” Smith (27-0-0, 19KO
) – with both also going for the vacant WBC Super-Middleweight Title that has been recently added into the mix to sweeten the pot.
BELTS UPON BELTS, FOR CANELO ALVAREZ
Canelo Alvarez’s brazen attempt to take over 2-divisions simultaneously by winning Ring-Magazine belts hasn’t been done often historically, and doing so would put him in some good company. He is also attempting to become only the 6th fighter to win at least 4 Ring-Magazine Titles, and the 10th to become a true Triple-Crown winner in that same regard (which would include Ring Titles at ⚖️154/160/168 lbs).
Now duly noted, most of his previous big fights have harbored some questionable scores or verdicts to put it into full context, but nonetheless, he has been a great fighter in the last seven or eight years, and has constantly pushed to broaden his brand, and show his continuing growth as a top-flight fighter.
DESPITE BEING THE CHAMPION, CALLUM SMITH HAS SOMETHING BIG TO PROVE
Callum Smith has been riding high after running through the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) tournament, and ending the career of George Groves in the process. While riding high, a low point came in his previous fight, where he fought a very sharp
John Ryder, while also putting forth what was a flat performance by Callum’s standards, producing a decision in his favor that could be credibly debated for both boxers.
Callum knows what he’ll be up against, battling a P4P talent, and that’s enough to push Callum’s motivation into giving a full account of himself and what he is capable of producing, especially considering that Canelo will be the odds-on favorite coming into the fight, and once again Callum feeling the need to prove his worth. This fight will be shown live on 💻DAZN.
