Canelo Alvarez Switches Opponent as Target, Will Fight Smith for the Super-Middleweight Throne 📰

Well, the original fight plan fell through, so Middleweight King 👑🇲🇽Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KO) will sought out to seek becoming the man of also the ⚖️168 division, as he will face off against thee Super-Middleweight Champion of the World 👑🇬🇧Callum “Mundo” Smith (27-0-0, 19KO). Smith’s RING-MAGAZINE and WBA Titles are on the line. Canelo is seeking to become a 3-division RING World Champion, which would further his legacy, and bolster his Pound-4-Pound standings as being universally recognized as one of the 5 best in the world today.

📍An interesting note, throughout time, many hardcore pundits have given Canelo stick about fighting opponents under certain conditions, and rightfully so…whether they have a name, but are long in the tooth, or fighting some good fighters who are on the small side. That was indeed time spent under Golden-Boy Promotions, with 🇺🇸Oscar De La Hoya.

At times, it is difficult to see exactly what the driving force is between boxer and promoter to gauge the events taking place in the career of the fighter, but it is abundantly clear that since Canelo disbanded from Golden Boy, that he immediately sought after the two most talented fighters atop the Super-Middleweight division (he targeted 🇺🇸Caleb Plant first before their proposed fight fell through), with both Plant and Smith in the prime of their careers. Canelo Alvarez is looking to join legend 🇵🇭Manny Pacquiao as the only active boxers to win 3 or more RING Titles in differing weights.

Callum Smith has always been down for the big fights, and him joining the WBSS proved so.  After defeating 🇬🇧George Groves in dominant fashion, he became the man of the 168 lb. division.  His last fight with 🇬🇧John Ryder was uncomfortably close, a fight some observers believe that Ryder deserved to win, nonetheless Callum walked away with the title defense.  After a performance where he felt he could’ve done better, he has every incentive here to reach down and put forth the best he’s got against one of the best in the world in Alvarez.

The fight will be shown on 💻DAZN (a platform he has grown accustomed to), and the fight will happen on December 19th. Tune in for the big one.
