After an October that served up plenty of quality boxing action, the beginning of November is off to a slow start after this past weekends cards.
Tre Berry recaps Saturday’s headliner between Devin Haney and Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Featherweight prospect πΊπΈRaymond Ford picked up the seventh win of his career Saturday night on the Haney-Gamboa undercard. The 21 year old southpaw from Camden, New Jersey dropped Mexico’s π²π½Rafael Reyes, 29, three times on his way to a third round stoppage.
There’s steadily been signs of improvement from Ford (7-0-0, 3KO) in each of his outings over the past couple of years. His hand speed has always stood out, and while he can overwhelm Reyes (18-11-0, 14KO) and most opposition he will face at this point of his career with that alone, he continues to sharpen his punch placement and body work as well.

Welterweight πΊπΈReshat Mati (8-0-0, 6KO), 22, of Staten Island, handled 35 year old Nicaraguan πΊπΈMarcos Mojica (17-6-2, 13KO) with ease, dispatching the 10 year veteran in the second round.
The left hand of the “Albanian Bear” put Mojica down in the first and early on in the second round. Mojica was finished off when the left uppercut of Mati split Mojica’s guard and sent him spiraling to the canvas. Mojica shook his head informing the referee he wanted no more and the fight was waved off.

A right hook and left cross in the fourth round gave Chinese Heavyweight π₯π¨π³Zhilei Zhang his 17th career knockout. The size (6’6″, 259lbs) of the 37 year old southpaw overwhelmed 38 year old Toledo native πΊπΈDevin Vargas (6’3″, 233) who was unable to get up and appeared to suffer an injury on his way to the canvas.
At his age it will be interesting to see how Zhilei is moved, but his name was mentioned as a potential opponent by Croatian Heavyweight Filip Hrgovic. Speaking of which…

π₯ππ·Filip Hrgovic (12-0-0, 10KO) continues to rise on the Heavyweight radar after becoming the first in the division to stop 39 year old πΊπΈRydell Booker (26-4-0, 13KO), a 30 fight veteran of Detroit. Post fight Hrgovic let it be known that he is ready to raise the bar challenge wise calling out all the current contenders and rising heavyweights including Michael Hunter, Daniel Dubois, and Zhilei Zhang.

Another interesting matchup for the 28 year old Croatian is Cuba’s π¨πΊFrank Sanchez, also 28 years of age. Sanchez (16-0-0, 12KO) defeated πΊπΈBrian Howard (15-4-0, 12KO) by fourth round knockout Saturday night as the co main to fellow countryman π¨πΊLuis Ortiz’s headliner against πΊπΈAlexander Flores whom Ortiz got rid of in less than a minute.

On Friday at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, WBO Flyweight Champion π―π΅Junto Nakatani (21-0-0, 16KO) won his first world title after knocking out π΅πGiemel Magramo (24-2-0, 20KO) in the eighth round.
