Tureano Johnson brought the action against Jaime Munguia in Friday night’s main event in Indio, California, but in the sixth round an uppercut from the 24 year old from Tijuana ended the night for Johnson. No, the shot didn’t put the 36 year old Bahamian to sleep, it ripped open his lip creating one of the nastier gashes you’ll see on a fighters lip.

The gash forced the stoppage of the contest, which was highly competitive up to that point. With the win Munguia (36-0-0, 29KO) picks up his second victory at Middleweight and will make for good action against any of the top Middleweights right now. Tureano Johnson (21-3-1, 15KO) may no longer be title contention level, but he will still provide solid undercard action to test young up and comers a couple more times.

Rashidi Ellis outboxed Alexis Rocha over 12 rounds in their Welterweight contest to take the unanimous decision (116-112, 116-112, 115-113). It’s very possible we see Ellis (23-0-0, 14KO) in against unbeaten rising Welterweight Vergil Ortiz soon. Rocha (16-1-0, 10KO) is a solid fighter who has plenty of time to rebuild off of this loss.

WBO Junior-Flyweight Champion Elwin Soto (18-1-0, 12KO) retained his title after taking the unanimous decision (117-111, 119-109, 115-113) over Carlos Buitrago (32-6-1, 18KO).

Oleksandr Usyk went 12 rounds with the rough and rugged Dereck Chisora at Wembley Arena, read Tre Berry’s recap here.

It was highly debated by the broadcast team and the boxing fanbase when the scores were announced but George Kambosos Jnr. (19-0-0, 10KO) took the split decision over Lee Selby (28-3-0, 9KO) in their IBF Lightweight eliminator. Judge Phil Edwards scored it 115-114 for Selby, while judges Yury Kopstev had it 118-110 for Kambosos and 116-112 for the Aussie as well. For what it’s worth, I had it 115-113 for Selby and Tre Berry scored it for Selby as well 117-111.

It was a great back and forth battle between 🇺🇸Gervonta “Tank” Davis (24-0-0, 23KO) and 🇲🇽Leo Santa Cruz (37-2-1, 19KO) in San Antonio but a devastating uppercut delivered by Davis ended the valiant Santa Cruz’s night with no count administered. Davis is now a two division title holder, owning the WBA (Regular) Lightweight title and the WBA World Super-Featherweight title. Plenty of options next for Davis, will he go to 130 and fight the likes of Berchelt, Stevenson or Russell Jr? Or will he take on the young Lightweights like Haney (should he handle his fight with Gamboa) and Lopez?

Other notable fights: Regis Prograis (25-1-0, 21KO) KO 3/10 over Juan Heraldez (16-1-1, 10KO). Mario Barrios (26-0-0, 17KO) TKO 6/12 over Ryan Karl (18-3-0, 12KO). Issac Cruz Gonzalez (20-1-1, 15KO) TKO 1/12 over Diego Magdaleno (32-4-0, 13KO). Murat Gassiev (27-1-0, 20KO) TKO 1/12 Nuri Seferi (41-10-0, 23KO).
