With only a few hours between fight time and his 18th birthday, the Florida State Boxing Commission waved their age restriction which allowed highly touted Welterweight prospect 🇵🇷Xander Zayas to continue his pro seasoning on a Friday night card in Kissimmee, Florida.
The San Juan, Puerto Rico native, who currently resides in Sunrise, Florida, dismantled 25 year old 🇺🇸Orlando Salgado who was in just his second professional bout. The Colorado bred Salgado was on his heels from the opening bell, and with 56 seconds left in the first round was taken out by a vicious flurry of unanswered shots, capped off by a blistering left hand. Salgado (1-1-0,1KO) sank into the ropes before hitting the canvas as the referee waved the bout off and Zayas retreated to the neutral corner for a quick prayer and celebratory fist pump.
This was the first return to the ring since the coronavirus pandemic halted boxing for Zayas (5-0-0,4KO), and his third fight overall in 2020. The last time he was in action was in February when he stopped Maklin Bailey in three rounds, which followed a fourth round TKO win over Corey Champion in January.
