🇺🇸David “El Bandera Roja (Red Flag)” Benavidez (22-0-0, 19KO) is back in action Saturday night. The 23 year old Phoenix, Arizona native is in his second reign as WBC Super-Middleweight champion and is making the first defense of the strap since stopping Anthony Dirrell last September on the undercard to Errol Spence vs Shawn Porter.
Challenging him will be 🇨🇴Roamer Alexis Angulo (26-0-1, 22KO). The 36 year old Colombian is on somewhat of a high after outworking and upsetting up and coming prospect Anthony Sims in January. This will be the second time Angulo will challenge for a title, the first time resulting in a loss to Gilberto Ramirez for the WBA version of the title.
This fight was originally set to take place in April but the COVID-19 pandemic put that and every other card on the shelf. Angulo will be a heavy underdog Saturday but if Benavidez shows any rust after nearly a year out of the ring, the veteran could make things interesting.
Benavidez vs Angulo will take place at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut and serve as the headliner on Showtime 9pm ET/6pm PT.
