This Saturday on March 14th, twenty-two year old high end boxing stand-out 🥈🇺🇸Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (13-0-0, 7KO👊) will look to defend his newly acquired WBO World Featherweight Title against respected power-punching #7 WBO ranked world contender 🇨🇴Miguel “Scorpion” Marriaga (29-3-0, 25KO👊), and it will take place at the 🏟️Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
STEVENSON COMING INTO HIS OWN
Stevenson a few months ago back in October won his 1st Title belt when he won the WBO strap by defeating talented Mexican-American 🇺🇸Joet Gonzalez, and doing so rather easily by giving Gonzalez his 1st loss; the win coming to Stevenson by near shut-out variety. He became the second fastest to win a fraction of the Featherweight crown (doing so in his 13th fight), following behind 🥇🥇🇺🇦Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko, who won the same belt Stevenson has, in only his 3rd professional fight. Stevenson early on in his career has managed to capture the imagination of boxing insiders, who have seen incredible personal growth inside the ring since emerging as a 🥈Silver-Medalist in the ◯◯◯◯◯2016 Olympics, whose ceiling is hard to decipher where it will cap off as he has an enormous amount of potential to continue his growth as he matures as a pro.
Miguel Marriaga is one of those free-flowing type of fighters that you can easily 🔌plug into any type of match-up, and fans will be accepting of his placing in the event. This fight in reality serves as a showcase for Stevenson, and a litmus test for Stevenson against others who have bested the Colombian boxer. While that is the case, Marriaga will bring it, as he possesses heavy hands, a good deal of handspeed, and a well equipped motor to bring forth to Stevenson to try and slow down the young Titlist to get his offense on board. Marriaga has only lost to the best, and those losses have come at the hands of the aforementioned Vasiliy Lomachenko, as well as against 🇯🇲Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters, and 🇲🇽Oscar Valdez, albeit the latter against Valdez was an impressive performance that had him gain some respect for his efforts (Pictured Below).
THE DESIRE & THE PLAN – Stevenson later in the 🗓️2020 calendar year wants to set up a major Unification Title match against IBF Featherweight Titlist 🇬🇧Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington, and Promoter Bob Arum is on board with working towards getting his wishes, working with Eddie Hearn (Warrington’s Promoter) to make that happen. Stevenson not only of course wants to win his fight against Marriaga, he wants to dominate and win in style to up his positioning at the negotiating table, and to 📈drive up the interest of the pending Warrington fight in the minds of the fans, so we should see the best version of Shakur Stevenson, to further secure his positioning as one of the best fighters in the world under the age of 25. This fight will be on 📺regular ESPN.
