There’s an intrinsic feeling whenever you are able to cross paths with someone you admired and looked up to, and that goes for any profession, scenario or situation that you can think of. That moment is 🔎magnified when you are able to share a boxing ring with them and be able to make contact with them by way of 🥊🥊gloved fists. Former undefeated WBA World Titlist 🇬🇧Khalid “Kal” Yafai got that opportunity, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to overcome the troubles brought to him by his idol 🇳🇮Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, and Gonzalez eventually knocked him out in the 7th round with a single dynamite right hand.
Immediately after Yafai was counted out, Gonzalez instead of celebrating, came over concerned, checking on the condition of his defacto pupil, once again putting humility and class before personal achievement, redemption and glory, once again reminding people of why he has been one of boxing’s greatest ambassador’s as a role model in the last couple of decades. Yafai was humble in defeat, and probably has gained even more respect for Gonzalez, though on a personal level, this one will sting him for a little while. Much like the memories and lessons 🇵🇭Nonito Donaire would go on to pass to 🇯🇵Naoya Inoue in their epic contest, the same was done here, albeit in a different type of outcome for the younger fighter, but one direct linkage between the two is the respect that was shown between the fighters who are at different points in their career.
