Mexico’s Newest Star Martinez Looks to Defend Flyweight Title Against Tough Challenger in Harris

In the year 2019, WBC Flyweight Titlist 🇲🇽Julio Cesar Martinez (15-1-0, 12KO👊) made an abrupt entrance to boxing’s spot light by taking down top opponents, doing so with a style unique to him, and on February 29th, he will look to be doing the same.  He will face yet another stern test in the ring as he will be battling unbeaten Brit, WBC #5 contender 🇬🇧Jay Harris (17-0-0, 9KO👊) on the Frisco, Texas fight card at the “Ford Center at the Star” facility.

The Flyweight division, albeit host to some talented boxers, needed a shot in the arm, and that has been administered by Martinez bursting onto the scene like the 🌪️Tazmanian Devil, upsetting undefeated big time talent 🇬🇧Andrew Selby, putting a scare into 🇬🇧Charlie Edwards by putting him down albeit the fight being called a NO-CONTEST due to a late hit from Martinez, and him dominating 🇳🇮Cristofer Rosales to earn his first World Title.  The miniscule even-handed Martinez (he stands at just 5’2) fights big, with a versatile skill-set, and has an unrelenting motor (reminiscent of the high-volume punching of a 🇲🇽Marco Antonio Barrera), and often confuses opponents by somehow being able to switch stances in mid-combination without losing his balance, or compromising his positioning, and landing with a high degree of accuracy.

Jay Harris has steadily worked his way up to title contention, for what will be his first official crack at a major title.  The 29 year old, 6 1/2 year vet made himself a fixture at the domestic level, winning the British Commonwealth Flyweight Title in early 2017 by TKO over 🇨🇲Thomas Essomba, and obtaining the EBU European Title by winning a decision against 🇪🇸Angel Moreno.  Jay Harris would really make his mark in his next fight by defeating interesting Irish Olympic Bronze-Medalist 🥉🇮🇪Paddy Barnes to catapult himself up the ranks and put himself in a quality position to get a big opportunity.

Harris is a very confident fighter, who believes that by March, he will have a green belt around his waist, and he is definitely not going inside the ropes just to lay down. The stacked card in which this fight falls on, this undercard bout has the potential to steal the spotlight and be the standout bout of the night.  Tune into 💻DAZN on February 29th to view this contest, and the rest of a promising card filled with bouts that could serve as their own headliners.
