It’s been a good year for British Flyweight 🇬🇧Sunny “Showtime” Edwards (13-0-0, 4KO), and he will look to finish on a high note against Liverpool’s 🇬🇧Marcel “The Chosen One” Braithwaite (9-1-0, 0KO) in a 10 round Super-Flyweight bout. The fight will play as the undercard to the Heavyweight headliner between Daniel Dubois and Kyotaro Fujimoto at The Copper Box Arena in London.
The younger of the “Croydon Klitschkos” duo made up of him and older brother and former WBC Flyweight champion Charlie Edwards, will look to collect the vacant British Super Flyweight title to end the year, having already picked up the IBF International version earlier in 2019. Edwards has made it clear that he is more than happy to go between flyweight and super fly to collect hardware as he has also obtained the IBF International and WBO Intercontinental Flyweight titles in his last fight.
Braithwaite finds himself with an opportunity to pull what would be a massive upset to say the least, after nearly hanging the gloves up and being out of action for eight months due to bouts with depression. He got back to business in May and has picked up the English Super-Flyweight title in October.
It seems there has been some digging on Edwards end towards Braithwaite, nothing substantial, just the typical social media jabs we get so often now. Honestly it’s more than likely an attempt to build buzz for the fight then any true animosity held towards Braithwaite.
As far as the matchup goes, it looks as if Edwards will collect his fourth belt of the year for Christmas. With zero knockouts in ten fights, Braithwaite doesn’t carry anything in the way of pop that will get Edwards attention and his competition has been dismal with his opponents carrying a collective record of 47-284-25. Expect Edwards to coast to a unanimous decision or late round TKO Saturday.
