A Future HOF’er Returns to the Ring – Chocolatito to Take a Comeback Fight at Yokohama Arena 📰

By Tré Berry III🖊️

Nicaraguan boxing legend & former 4-division World Champion 🇳🇮Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (47-2-0, 39KO👊) will take an 8 round tune-up fight, on short notice against 🇵🇭Diomel Diocos (14-5-3, 4KO👊), getting in on the Ryota Murata / Steven Butler card in Yokohama, Japan.

This fight will end a 15 month hiatus from the ring for Chocolatito as he last fought September 15th in 2018 against former Strawweight Titlist 🇲🇽Moises Flores, knocking him out to get his lone victory since his devastating knockout defeat to 🇹🇭Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in their re-match. Since that fight, he has only fought 1 fight in the last 27 months, dealing with a litany of issues such as a knee problem that required surgery, some family drama, and frankly some confidence issues after he was up-ended by his Thai rival. Roman is currently 32 years of age (which is pushing the boundaries of shelf life for a small boxer), so he is looking to use this opportunity to get back acclimated to the ring, and shake off the rust as he is seeking to get back in the contention picture for a shot at a World Title (he sits as the #3 ranked challenger in the WBA’s sanctioning body, with 🇬🇧Kal Yafai holding the organizations World Title at Super-Flyweight). This fight will be shown on FUJI TV on Monday, December 23rd.
