Battle of New York, in New York – Richard Commey & Teofimo Lopez to Clash for IBF Title

The co-headliner coming in is without a doubt the most intriguing match-up of the MSG fight card, and may produce 50/50 type of results. The unofficial Lightweight tournament continues Saturday as knockout artist/IBF Lightweight Titlist 🇬🇭Richard “RC” Commey (29-2-0, 26KO👊) and entertaining young unbeaten world contender 🇭🇳🇺🇸Teofimo Lopez (14-0-0, 11KO👊) will fight for a berth to the final round of their tournament, with both focused on making a strong imprint in their division, and throughout all of boxing.

Richard Commey is of Ghanaian descent, however has taken up full residence in the Bronx, whereas Teofimo has Hondurian blood running through his veins, but is Brooklyn to his core. With two of the better current New York fighters going at it in their city of occupancy (in Madison Square Garden), a much bigger prize is on the line than that of just local bragging rights. The formation of the unofficial Lightweight tournament included 6 combatants at its inception. Richard Commey put together an impressive dominant performance to run through tough former Titlist 🇲🇽🇺🇸Ray Beltran, and Teofimo won a competitive decision against Japanese Lightweight contender 🇯🇵Masayoshi Nakatani to get to this semi-final berth.

The winner between Lopez and Commey will advance to the final round to fight P4P master/Lightweight Champion of the World 👑🥇🥇🇺🇦Vasiliy “Loma” Lomachenko (14-1-0, 10KO👊) for a 2020 showdown in April, which will form an Undisputed World Champion by proxy, as the winner here will hold the IBF belt, while Lomachenko holds the RING-MAGAZINE, WBA, WBC(Franchise) & WBO Lightweight Titles. Now if anyone is wondering about the WBC(Franchise) Titles placement in the Undisputed picture just to clear up the confusion, reporters a couple of months back shook down WBC President 🗣️Mauricio Sulaiman at the WBC convention with repeated questions on the subject, to where he caved and acknowledged that the WBC(Franchise) Title would still classify towards the Undisputed picture, so for Commey and Teofimo, the biggest fight out there is on the horizon for them to graduate towards, but they first must deal with each other as 2 of the higher ranking Lightweights in the world (Ring-Magazine has Richard Commey ranked at #2, and Teofimo Lopez is ranked #4). Tune into regular 📺ESPN on Saturday night to catch this co-main event.
