The Stage Is Set For Cobbs To Put “Flair” On Full Display

If there were any questions as to whether or not the showmanship of Philadelphia Welterweight 🇺🇸Blair Cobbs was doing it’s job to garner attention, then they’ve been answered by way of his next fight…

Cobbs fourth fight of the year will put him on his biggest stage yet as he will engage in a 10 round bout not just on the Canelo Alvarez vs Sergey Kovalev undercard, but the main televised portion at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will take on Mexico’s 🇲🇽Carlos Ortiz Cervantes (11-4-0, 11KO) in a fight definitely set up to showcase Cobbs and every ounce of his ring moniker of “The Flair”.

The 29 year old southpaw can be easily recognized by his signature flopping curly afro and whose “Flair” is accentuated with his trash talk and loud cries of “Whooooo” throughout his fight, inspired by Hall of Fame wrestler Ric Flair.

Cervantes matches Cobbs in height at 5’10” and is also a southpaw but the 35 year old journeyman has spent the majority of his career at super welterweight in club fights in Mexico. This will be his second fight in the United States as he dropped an eight round unanimous decision to welterweight prospect Alex Rocha last year, one of his three losses in four fights in 2018.

In his last fight in August, Cobbs retained his NABF Junior Welterweight Title over Steve Villalobos by ninth round knockout in a scheduled ten rounder. The fight saw the flamboyant showman get up from being put on the deck and engage in a firefight with Villalobos that he would eventually get the better of in the ninth.

Victorious he was, but the reign of boos he was showered with as he raised his arms in victory, could be a sign of how he will be viewed as his career plays out only eleven fights in. The names currently on his resume won’t raise any eyebrows and Cervantes won’t change that an ounce should Cobbs do what he’s expected to, but it’s clear the goal here is to introduce him to the viewing audience. Expect Cobbs to put on a performance from ringwalk to post fight interview.

Blair Cobbs vs Carlos Ortiz Cervantes will be on the main card portion of the DAZN broadcast Saturday starting at 9pm.
