Tensions boiled and eventually spilled over at 🇺🇸Claressa Shields and 🇭🇷Ivana Hazabin’s official weigh-ins for their WBO Super-Welterweight showdown that was supposed to be scheduled for tomorrow night on Showtime. After the hostility rose between the two camps, an individual from Shields entourage took it too far and went past banter as he sucker-punched Hazabin’s 🗣️Head-Trainer James Ali Bashir, to where Bashir’s head hit the floor and was reportedly knocked unconscious of upwards to 20 minutes.
Local police in Flint state that they have the suspect in custody. Bashir was put on a gurney and taken to the hospital to treat wounds he suffered, as well as undergoing neurological tests for precautionary methods.
With the veteran Trainer out of commission, Ivana Hazabin elected not to fight without her Head-Trainer, and the bout has been called off. The show for tonight continues as the rest of the card stays in tact, and the bout between 🇺🇸Jaron Ennis and 🇦🇷Demian Daniel Fernandez was officially rolled over to be the main event of the evening.
INNER SCOPE❌ – So much for Claressa Shields cleaning up the sport and being the face of women’s boxing from a marketable and leading standpoint, as this situation will ultimately dent her reputation despite arguably being the best fighter on her side of the sport. Of course she didn’t partake in that action or do it first hand, but birds of a feather… (you know the saying). She failed on her end to keep her crew in check, and now has her opportunity at achieving history taken away in a flash due to the actions carried out by her contingent. We will ultimately see where she goes from here, and whether she will make an official statement or not surrounding the melee that took place at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint, Michigan.
