Two grizzled old school welterweight vets known for leaving every ounce in the ring, will open things up on the main PPV card for Spence vs Porter Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

When boxing fans see the names of Josesito “The Riverside Rocky” Lopez and John “The Gladiator” Molina on a fight card they are pretty much assured they are going to witness an action packed fight. Over the past 10 years Lopez and Molina have taken part in more than their fair share of classic battles of wills that have made them fan favorites.

This past January, we saw Lopez do battle with then WBA Welterweight champion Keith Thurman, who was making his return to the ring after a nearly two year hiatus. The then 34 year old Lopez proved to still be a tough out after being dropped in the second round, giving Thurman all he could handle the rest of the fight, even hurting him in the 7th round, before losing on the cards by majority decision.

About three weeks after Lopez’s battle with Thurman, Molina took Omar Figueroa to task in a back and forth battle that many felt Molina deserved the nod in but would lose a 10 round unanimous decision.

Lopez vs Molina will be a nice appetizer for the main card. The two southern California natives always have the potential to steal the show no matter who they are in the ring with, so now facing each other, they should be destined fireworks as they only know how to fight one way and that’s all action.
