🇺🇸Jose “Chon” Zepeda (31-2-0, 25KO), who proved to be a handful for current WBC/WBO Super-Lightweight Unified Champion 🇺🇸Jose Carlos Ramirez back in February, took a 10-round unanimous decision (97-93 on all cards) over tough former two-weight World Titlist 🇵🇷Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (26-3-0, 13KO) Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena on the Fury-Wallin undercard.
For what was Pedraza’s first fight at 140 lbs, he was inexplicably flat, for reasons other than added weight, and seemed unusually lethargic with his footwork throughout the 10-round contest, including down the stretch with the fight hanging in the balance and with Zepeda winning the majority of the exchanges. Zepeda did well in off-setting Pedraza’s timing and beating him at his own game, counter-punching and out-dueling him from middle distance. Zepeda was awarded a Unanimous Decision victory with 3 identical scores of 97-93 (3X) to get what is up to this point the most impressive victory of his career.
It appears unlikely, although not out of the question – that Pedraza may make his way down to his natural weight at 135 in seek of quality fights in the Lightweight division, where he feels comfortable and at his best.
