A Title Shot Draws Near as Hovhannisyan Makes Easy Work of Manzanilla

All action and fan friendly Armenian Super-Bantamweight world contender 🇦🇲Azat Hovhannisyan keeps the knockouts coming. Hovhannisyan (18-3-0, 15KO) ran through Colombian 🇻🇪Franklin Manzanilla (18-6-0, 17KO) by fourth round knockout in their WBA Super-Bantamweight eliminator on Thursday at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. The fight served as headliner to Golden Boy’s Thursday Night Fights series.

“This was a very easy fight at first. I could have made it a 12-round fight, and he would not have touched me. I wanted to make it a tough fight. I didn’t even feel his punches.”

This gives Hovhannisyan his fourth win in a row, all by knockout, since dropping a unanimous decision to WBC Champion Rey Vargas in May of 2018. Manzanilla is now 0-2 in 2019, his other loss also coming at the hands of Rey Vargas in February.

Hovhannisyan, aka “Crazy A” is one step closer to a title shot with current WBA/IBF title holder Daniel Roman (27-2-1, 10KO). Roman is currently on the shelf for 4-6 weeks as he was recently diagnosed with tendonitis and it’s unknown what his next fight will be when he heals.

Maybe we will get Hovhannisyan against current WBA interim champion Brandon Figueroa (20-0, 15 KOs). “The Heartbreaker” retained his interim title with his win over Javier Nicolas Chacon last month.
