When 🇵🇭Sammy “The Silent Assassin” Salva (17-0-0, 10KO) takes on 🇵🇭Pedro “Rattle Snake” Taduran (13-2-0,10KO) this Saturday in Taguig City, Philippines, it will be the third all Filipino world title fight since May of 2018. The previous two being Jerwin Ancajaa beating Jonas Sultan for the IBF Super Flyweight title, and Donnie Nietes and Aston Palicte fighting to a draw for the WBO Super Flyweight title.
Salva and Taduran, both 22, will be fighting for what is now the vacant IBF Strawweight title which was relinquished in July by South Africa’s Deejay Kriel who was originally slated to make his first defense against Salva.
In May, Manny Pacquiao’s MP promotions won the bid for the fight for just $25,000, meaning Kriel would make less than $17,000 for the first defense of the belt and would hit the road to Manila to do so. Since then Kriel has stated his inability to make weight as his reason for moving up to 108.
Now we have Salva vs Taduran. Taduran was in a title shot last August when he faced Wanheng Menayothin for the WBC strap, dropping a decision in Thailand. In his last outing in December, he beat Jeffrey Galero by second round stoppage.
Salva showed he is one to watch at Strawweight as he dominated the back end of his fight with Rene Mark Cuarto on March 23rd as he earned a unanimous decision ( 117-111, 116-112, 116-112) in Manila.
