Former WBO Super-Bantamweight Champion 🇺🇸Jessie Magdaleno’s fight with 🇲🇽Rafael Rivera came to a sudden halt with only seconds left in the 9th round of a scheduled 10 round bout Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Magdaleno suffered a bad cut over his right eye in what was deemed an accidental left elbow from Rivera (27-4-2, 18KO)that sent the bout to the scorecards. At the time of the stoppage the judges all had it comfortably for Magdaleno 89-81, 89-81, 88-82.
This marks the second win at 126 for Magdaleno (27-1-0, 18KO) as he continues inching his way towards a title opportunity in the featherweight division. This past March he out pointed Rico Ramos over 10 rounds in a fight that was a bit dull overall but got the ball rolling in his new weight class.
A title shot isn’t likely for Magdaleno’s next fight but it shouldnt be too far off for him at this point, as he comes in at #4 on the WBO rankings. With the cut suffered in this fight it probably pushes his next match into early 2020 and should he win that one, we should see him in a title bout after that.
