Earlier this month, British WBO Super-Middleweight Champion 🇬🇧Billy Joe Saunders (28-0-0, 13KO) surprised the boxing world with his split with Promoter Frank Warren a couple of weeks back, agreeing to part ways on friendly terms after 9 years paired together.
It seemed rather obvious as to where Billy would have his eyes set on next, it just had to play out as such to come to fruition. Further giving credence to the theory was with Saunders engaging in extensive talks with Warren’s idol Eddie Hearn regarding a potential signing with Matchroom Boxing almost immediately, shortly after his departure from Queensberry Promotions.
Now that Saunders is officially signed on with Matchroom, this bolsters hope for Saunders of garnering quality match-ups as many of the top talent in the Middleweight & Super-Middleweight divisions operate under the umbrella of Matchroom and with Golden Boy who has a partnership with Eddie Hearn to utilize their DAZN platform to full capacity. Such fighters include the likes of Ring-Lineal Super-Middleweight Champion ♛🇬🇧Callum Smith, Ring-Lineal Middleweight Champion ♛🇲🇽Canelo Alvarez, 🥈🇰🇿Gennadiy Golovkin, 🇺🇸Daniel Jacobs, 🇺🇸Demetrius Andrade and so forth. With willing participants and fair negotiation practices, this should increase Billy’s prospects of getting far better match-ups than he has gotten throughout his pro career thus far. This signing makes the landscape between a couple of loaded divisions more interesting going forward, and we look forward to seeing what the first step Saunders & crew will take in starting his journey at Matchroom Boxing.
