Undefeated Irish Featherweight prospect 🥉🇮🇪Michael Conlan (11-0-0, 6KO) will take on Argentina’s 🇦🇷Diego Alberto Ruiz (21-2-0, 10KO) in a 10 round featherweight bout Saturday at Falls Park in his hometown of Belfast.
Conlan was originally set to square off with Olympic rival 🇷🇺Vladimir Nikitin whom he and many who watched, felt he was robbed against in the 2016 Olympic quarterfinals. Nikitin was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a biceps injury in June.
Throughout Conlan’s pro career so far it appeared that the build up was geared towards him settling the score with Nikitin but after his withdrawal from this bout, Conlan says he is levels ahead of the Russian and is ready to move forward with his career.
This will be the second fight for Conlan in 2019. He defeated Mexico’s Ruben Garcia Hernandez by 10 round unanimous decision back on St. Patrick’s Day weekend at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden.
For Ruiz, this is also his second bout of the year as he was last seen defeating Luis Emanuel Cusolito by split decision in June. This will mark the first time Ruiz has fought outside of his native Argentina.
Conlan vs Ruiz will be shown on the ESPN+ app at 3pm ET/ 12pm PT Saturday.
