In what was obviously to be expected, WBA Super-Featherweight World Titlist 🇺🇸Gervonta “Tank” Davis (22-0-0, 21KO) flexed the muscle and ran through an over-matched 🇵🇦Ricardo Nunez (21-3-0, 19KO), fulfilling his Mandatory obligations, and sending his home town fans happy while doing so.
Davis as usual was explosive, and he made his power felt early. In the second round during a clinch, Nunez got cocky for some reason, and forget to keep his hands in proper placement. Tank seen the opportunity, and ripped a nasty left hook upstairs right to the chin, then Davis went on the attack in letting his combinations fly, with one of those punches snapping Nunez head all the way back while his back was on the ropes. That was enough for Referee Harvey Dock to step in and call a halt to the bout in the second round.
This was the 3rd defense of Davis WBA Title, and with this in the books, we hope to see him and his handlers take some sort of gamble that gives the standing of their fighter the credence he needs in terms of respectability within the sport by finally taking on some of the top talent in the Super-Featherweight division. He is certainly talented enough to combat with them all, though knuckles have been dragged by his promotional team in securing such fights. The way his talent is budding right now, this is an optimal time for them to weigh their options at the top of the heap, perhaps looking into potential Unification matches with 🇺🇸Tevin Farmer (who just fought tonight), or with 🇲🇽Miguel Berchelt.
