Ramirez in the Fight of the Year TKO’s Hooker in the 6th Round 🔥

Wow, now that was Combat! 🇺🇸Jose Carlos Ramirez (25-0-0, 17KO) and 🇺🇸Maurice Hooker (26-1-3, 17KO) put forth 6 action packed rounds of non-stop back and forth strategic action, and Ramirez came out on top, bombarding Hooker in the 6th round to become the Unified WBO & WBC Junior-Welterweight Champion.

The action started as soon as the opening bell rung, with Ramirez coming straight forward on his front foot, burying his head in Hookers chest and digging away while Hooker was lining up and firing some mean right hands. An incorrect ruling occurred when Ramirez stepped on Hookers foot simultaneous to a right hand landing, and was ruled a knockdown. Hooker put in some serious work in the remaining time in the round, putting Ramirez in very vulnerable spots. In the second round, Ramirez exclusively worked the body while Hooker for whatever reason decided to park on the ropes instead of staying in the center of the ring to utilize his reach advantage. Mo Hooker’s 🗣️Head-Trainer instructed him properly to stay in the center of the ring, so Hooker did that, and found bigger pockets of success, landing some quality body shots of his own, getting the left hook going and landing some thudding right hands. For every sequence Hooker landed, Ramirez had a counter, as they both showcased highly sophisticated levels of combination punching, level changes and punch placement.

In the 6th round, all hell broke loose as Ramirez landed a filthy left hook on the tip of Hookers chin, and completely 🔩corkscrewed his head on his neck. Ramirez smelled blood in the water and went for the finish, landing a scary barrage of combinations that landed cleanly on Hooker as he was out on his feet, and Referee Mark Nelson came flying in there to stop the fight. It was a perfect stoppage, and if he got there a couple seconds later, could’ve caused some serious damage, adding to the echo of what’s been going on of late with boxers taking too much punishment. We hope to see a rematch of this one, as it ultimately produced what was what we feel was the FOTY (Fight of the Year), but they shouldn’t run it back immediately, being that it was a painful ordeal that Hooker just went through. Instead we would like to see it sometime down the line.

As for Ramirez, this was the best performance of his career, and he just defeated the toughest fighter that he has faced in the pro ranks, securing his position as one of the best fighters in the Junior-Welterweight division. With him now in possession of 2 of the 4 Title belts, and the potential winner of the WBSS tourney between 🇺🇸Regis Prograis & 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Josh Taylor hoisting 2 Titles and the ♛Ring-Magazine-Lineal Championship Belt, perhaps the next logical step could be a shot for Ramirez against the winner there to crown an Undisputed Champion. We will see how that all unfolds in the next few months.
