Two Former Champs Meet in the Bantamweight Division (Nery vs. Payano)

As part of the Pacquiao/Thurman undercard, knockout specialist 🇲🇽Luis “Pantera” Nery (29-0-0, 22KO) will stand across from rugged former Titlist 🇩🇴Juan Carlos Payano (21-2-0, 9KO) of the Dominican Republic this Saturday. They are both going for the vacant minor WBC ‘Silver’ Title to try to jockey themselves in position to fight the holder of the official WBC World Title, that of course being Nordine Oubaali, who fought just a couple weeks ago.

Nery is a disgraced fighter due to his actions and behavior in his fights against 🇯🇵Shinsuke Yamanaka (rightfully so) with Nery testing positive for the banned substance Zilpaterol in the first fight, and showing up to the weigh-in for the second fight 5 lbs overweight. With that being stated, he is an exciting offensive machine, with dangerous punching power and size for the division. Payano has been one of the toughest fighters in boxing since his debut at the professional level 10 years ago. His last fight was a decision victory against a young undefeated prospect, but his devastating knockout loss against thee Bantamweight Champion of the World ♛🇯🇵Naoya Inoue is still very fresh in everyone’s memory from October of last year. Now Payano has another opportunity at a top-level Bantamweight, and despite Nery being a dangerous fighter, he is a flawed one, making the prospects for Payano better than his chances back last year against Inoue. Payano wants to prove to the public that he can get to, and eventually win a World Title under normal circumstances, to prove his worth in the sport of boxing.
