In the 5th defense of his World Heavyweight Title billed as the “Fight of the Century”, 🇺🇸Jack Johnson (53-5-10, 25KO) defeats 🇺🇸Jim Jeffries (19-1-2, 16KO) by TKO in the 15th round scheduled for 45.

Fight notes

-Jeffries was talked into coming out of retirement to fight Johnson. He had not fought since August of 1904, almost six years before this fight, and he had blown up to over 300 pounds. Jeffries had to lose approximately 100 pounds to get back to his fighting weight of 226.

-PURSE: $101,000 (winner 60% loser 40%)

When the fight was made, the winner was to get 75% and the loser 25%. Five days before the fight, Johnson suggested they change it to a 50/50 split. Jeffries countered with the 60/40 split which Johnson agreed to.

Each fighter was reportedly given a $10,000 signing bonus. Jeffries was given $66,666 for movie rights and Johnson was given $50,000.
