It’s become very interesting in the Super Welter/Junior Middleweight (154 lb) division in the last year or so. It’s wide open right now with all of the top dogs, Jarrett Hurd, Julian Williams, Jermell Charlo, and Tony Harrison having suffered a loss at some point, and now willing to face each other to prove they are king of the hill.
This here is the best case scenario for Orlando, Florida native 🇺🇸Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (20-1-0, 15KO), who after suffering a knockout loss to former WBC Champion Jermell Charlo in 2017, has been on the road back to contention.
In his second win on the comeback trail Lubin, who is rated #4 by the WBC and #5 by WBA, dropped respected veteran Ishe Smith four times on the way to stopping him in the third round this past February.
Next up for the explosive southpaw, is a WBC title eliminator against France’s Zakaria Attou (29-6-2, 7KO) who has won his last 7 bouts, but has spent the majority of his career in France and will be fighting in the U.S. for the first time.
This looks like a fight to keep Lubin busy before heading into his next tough fight as Attou hasn’t faced anyone that passes the eye test for even B level competition and appears to be in way over his head in this one. Look for Lubin to make quick work of Attou in the first couple of rounds.
Lubin vs Attou serves as the co-main event to Jermall Charlo vs Brandon Adams Saturday night at 9pm on Showtime.
