Former Super Bantamweight champion 🇨🇺Guillermo Rigondeaux (18-1-0, 12KO) of Cuba returns to the ring for just the second time since his loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2017 but finds himself in a title eliminator bout.
Rigondeaux will face Mexican former World Champion 🇲🇽Julio Ceja (32-3-0, 28KO) who is ranked as the #1 super bantamweight contender by the WBC while Rigondeaux is #3 in the rankings.
Rigondeaux was out for the entire 2018 year following his loss to Lomachenko and returned in January of 2019 with a first round knockout of Mexican Giovanni Delgado. Now in just his second fight back, Rigo finds himself one win away from a title crack at current champion Rey Vargas.
That’s not to say this is a gimme fight by any means. Ceja, 26, has a twelve year age advantage over the 38 year old “Rigo” and comes in with an explosive 84% knockout rate under respected trainer Joel Diaz.
This looks to be the best matchup Sunday as the co main to Jermell Charlo vs Jorge Cota, Sunday 8pm ET on FOX. It remains to be seen how the action plays out in the ring.
