Middleweight great Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin (38-1-1, 34KO) will step back into the ring with his new exposure to the DAZN platform as the first fight of his new deal, and he will fight undefeated, but unheralded contender Steve Rolls (19-0-0, 10KO) of Canada.
This fight will take place a a catchweight of 164 lbs. in the Super-Middleweight division, being that Rolls lately has been campaigning at the weight. For he 37 year old Golovkin, this is essentially a step up from what you would consider a tune-up fight, one where he can get back to action in showcasing what he and new Head-Trainer Jonathan Banks has added, and re-awoken in his overall arsenal. With Rolls being relatively unknown to a large contingent, it makes for an intriguing encounter, being that what you don’t know, or what you’re not able to pick up from your opponent can be a detriment to you as a fighter, so for Gennadiy, he is making sure to come in sharp to avoid any slip ups, especially with his secondary goal to try and get a 3rd fight with 👑Canelo Alvarez at Middleweight for September in attempts to get his belts back that he felt that he never lost in the ring. Rolls motivation is that he wants to immediately make a statement to the boxing world that despite the lack of World Class opponents on his record, that he belongs as a force to be respected, and to be reckoned with. The fight will take place as the main headliner on June 8th.
