The Forming of a Rematch in the Heavyweight Division (Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz II) 🗞️

Well well well…tonight we learned that a re-match has been agreed upon between WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay ‘Bronze-Bomber’ Wilder (41-0-1, 40KO) & always dangerous Luis ‘King-Kong’ Ortiz (31-1-0, 26KO). Their first encounter was a thriller that took place in March of 2018. A Fight-of-the-Year candidate it was…

with Ortiz proving to be the first strong test in Deontay’s career, with Ortiz even outperforming Deontay and jumping out ahead on the scorecards. Deontay made his presence felt in the 5th round, rocking Ortiz with a sledgehammer right that got him drunk. Ortiz endured, and came back in the 7th round, hurting Deontay and pressing the action while Deontay’s back was to the ropes.. Down the stretch you had the feeling that if Ortiz could just remain standing till the final bell, that he would be in great position to pull this one off, but that is a very tall task against a devastating puncher of this magnitude, and Ortiz got caught in the 10th round, put down, then ultimately erased with a savage uppercut from Deontay that put him away immediately on contact..

The good thing is since then, despite Ortiz being 40 (possibly older?) years of age, he has retained all of his speed & reflexes, so there is a chance that we get both fighters in top form again in the rematch, granted if there’s no progressive dulling from the older fighter from now until then. This bout will take place sometime in the Fall on Showtime Boxing. We will share additional information once we can come across it.
