Newly minted RING-MAGAZINE/WBA Super-Middleweight World Champion Callum ‘Mundo’ Smith (25-0-0, 18KO) will make his entrance back inside the ring after he won the Muhammad Ali Trophy in winning the World Boxing Super Series Tournament Finale a few months back. Accompanying him to the ring will be interesting former Middleweight World Titleholder Hassan N’Dam (37-3-0, 21KO) on the Joshua/Ruiz Jr. stacked undercard.
To win the WBSS Tournament, Callum Smith put on the performance of his life, out-dueling, defeating & retiring respected British warrior & World Champion George Groves from the sport of boxing after knocking him out in the 7th round of their contest. Prior to that, there was a growing feeling that Callum had much more than what he had previously shown up to that point in his career, with him exhibiting flashes of technical brilliance, without finding the key to putting out a consistent performance, however if his last fight was any indication of him unlocking that door, then he will be a tough out for anyone in the Super-Middleweight division. N’Dam at the age of 35 is a little long in the tooth, however he can still fight. He has decided to take a gamble moving up a weight class and taking this opportunity on short notice for a shot at the World Title. One things for sure, every time N’Dam steps into the ring, he gives his all in pursuit of the big prize, so he will try his best to test the Champion and his merit. For Smith, while this isn’t a mega-match, this is a solid potential first Title defense after coming off of a big fight, to square off against a seasoned veteran to keep himself sharp. As are the other matches this week, DAZN is the platform.
