Cuban 2-time Olympic Gold-Medalist Robeisy Ramirez made his deal official today, signing on to Bob Arum’s Top-Rank Promotions & joining a loaded roster full of standouts. Ramirez will begin his pro career in the Featherweight division, which is occupied by 3 fast-rising fighters who he has crossed paths with during his Olympic stint…
During the 2012 Olympic games in the Flyweight division, Ramirez got past Mongolian current standout Tugstogt Nyambayar to win his 1st Gold-Medal, while Nyamabar came away with the Silver-Medal. In the 2016 games in the Bantamweight division, Robeisy defeated talented rising Irish prospect Mike Conlan, who went on to put the 2016 Bronze-Medal around his neck, while Ramirez managed to also defeat generational talent Shakur Stevenson in the finals to win his 2nd Gold-Medal. The beauty of it all is that all 3 fighters listed who Ramirez had previously fought in the amateur ranks all currently fight in the Featherweight division, the division where Robeisy will begin his professional campaign at.
In terms of the natural challenges of transitioning over to the pro game and handling the media environment, Ramirez has a perfect mentor right down the hall at Top-Rank now to turn to in fellow 2-time Olympic World Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko for insight & guidance during his maturation process. The future awaits.
