Fast, angry and mentally locked in, Deontay ‘Bronze Bomber’ Wilder (41-0-1, 40KO) sent Mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale (20-2-0, 18KO) mentally into orbit with a right hand that must’ve felt as if Brezeale was hit with a metal baseball bat…
Upon impact, Brezeale immediately dropped to the canvas, laying flat on his back. He tried to get up, but he wasn’t able to make the count, and almost fell over again as Harvey Dock counted to 10, resulting in a devastating first round knockout.
Immediately, you could see the seismic speed advantage between the two fighters, with Brezeale seemingly stuck in molasses, leading with uppercuts and plodding forward with sloppy defense against the last man in the world to come in like that against. It didn’t take long for Deontay to measure him up, and he hurt him early in the round with a right hand. Wilder made sure to catch him with the same shot in a similar sequence, this time clipping the tip of the chin, and damn did he flatten him with it.
With this, Deontay secured the 9th Title defense of his WBC Heavyweight World Title Belt, and got his mandatory obligations out of the way, so that he can shift his focus on trying to do his part in solving the political mess in the Heavyweight division between him and the other 2 obvious names. This was a Knockout of the Year candidate, and a great addition to Deontay’s video catalog in capturing the destruction of his raw punching power.
