A Fresh Start at a Brand New Weight for Billy Joe Saunders

Talented, polarizing British boxer Billy Joe Saunders (27-0-0, 13KO) decided to alter his journey by looking north to enter the Super-Middleweight division. The former Champion finds himself at the doorstep of the vacant WBO Super-Middleweight World Title, and his opponent will be #1 ranked WBO contender Shefat Isufi (27-3-2, 20KO) who is of Serbian descent, fighting out of Germany. Saunders never lost a fight in his career and has improved over the last couple of years, however he has caused headaches, first with his blatant avoidance of Gennady Golovkin when they were the last 2 fighters who possessed Middleweight Title Belts, and his personal conduct away from boxing, as well as in it. This opportunity can cast a new breath of fresh air as he kickstarts the second half of his career, and a Title Belt is a very good start. Billy was a huge Middleweight, and his walk-around weight is heavy, upwards to over 190 lbs, so the Super-Middleweight division is one that he could fight in without compromise. Isufi has been unbeaten for nearly the last 5 years, though he hasn’t had a stern test yet. This will be the 29 year old’s first shot at a World Title.
On the undercard is the return of interesting powerpunching Silver-Medalist Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce (8-0-0, 8KO) in a 10-Rounder against large Heavyweight Alexander Ustinov (34-3-0, 25KO) as a good step up test. The venue for these fights are at the Lamex Stadium in the UK, and will be broadcast on ESPN+ on Saturday night.
