Irish Featherweight prospect Michael Conlan (11-0-0, 6KO) will finally get his shot at revenge. He will take on Vladimir Nikitin (3-0-0, 0KO) of Russia, who won a controversial decision over Conlan in the 2016 Olympics.
This is the fight that Conlan has wanted since turning pro, and he made it known after his St. Paddy’s day win this past March that he wanted Nikitin next.
Nikitin who now trains out of Oxnard, California under manager Egis Klimas, was signed by Top Rank with Bob Arum knowing the fire behind this rivalry, but also made it clear that he believed Nikitin has no responsibility in what took place in Rio, and feels the decision was a result of bigger corruption, stating “that was really Michael Conlan vs Vladimir Putin.”
The 10 round bout will headline a card in Conlan’s native Belfast at the Feile in Phobail Festival on August 3rd.
