After six rounds, the corner of Francisco ‘El Bandido’ Vargas (25-2-2, 18KO) had decided that they had seen enough, and called a halt to the fight as Miguel ‘El Alacran’ Berchelt (36-1-0, 32KO) wins the rematch and retains his WBC Super-Featherweight Title in Tucson.
Even though the fight ended after just six rounds, Berchelt managed to throw 728 (yes, 728) punches while Vargas put up 428. The two warriors combined to throw 1,200 punches in just half the scheduled rounds! Vargas after a while couldn’t handle the heavy workload coming his way, and took a lot of punishment, enough punishment for his corner to put a stop to the fight after the sixth round. This was Berchelt’s 5th successful Title defense of his WBC Super-Featherweight Title, and has expressed interest in facing the winner of the upcoming bout between WBO Champion Masayuki Ito & Jamel Herring.
