Last night, Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz Jr. (29-1-0, 15KO) was very sharp as usual, befuddling and outclassing his opponent Freddy Fonseca (26-3-1, 17KO) of Nicaragua on the Daniel Jacobs/Canelo Alvarez undercard.
Immediately out the gate you could see that Diaz’s reflexes were way too sharp for Fonseca to keep up with, and had a significant speed advantage, using his gifts to counter at will. Fonseca gave what he could in this one, but the fighter with the strange hair was too much for him to handle, and Diaz ending up doing enough to get the TKO victory in the 7th round.
There has been some interesting back and forth banter with Diaz and IBF Super-Featherweight Champion Tevin Farmer, and that would be very interesting if Diaz can get his title shot against the southpaw.
With Diaz level of talent, he is good enough to compete with and push anyone in the weight class, yet Farmer is as skilled and dedicated a fighter as there is going in the division, so who knows, maybe one day that is a match-up that can materialize.
