Boxing star and former 3X Champion Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia (35-2-0, 21KO) looked to be in top form tonight by outgunning Adrian Granados (20-7-2, 14KO) and defeating him at his own game, proving to be too strong for the tough-minded Mexican and getting the 7th round TKO stoppage.
Granados defense wasn’t up to standard, and Garcia used his openings as target practice, landing thudding left hooks and crosses throughout the fight. Granados was put down twice in the 2nd round, and once again in the 5th round. After enduring much punishment with very little to return back, Referee Thomas Taylor called a halt to the bout in the 7th round for the knockout victory.
Garcia came into this contest as the #1 WBC contender, and tonight he added the secondary WBC-Silver title to his name, which puts him in better standing to once again go for the official WBC World Champion Belt in a rematch with ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter. It is unclear at this point whether Porter next would go for a unification fight with Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence Jr. or Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman, but if no unification presents itself, that would put Garcia to the front of the line to secure a fight with Porter in the immediate future.
