The fight was a slow pace, and predictable one in many spots throughout the fight between #1 ranked WBO contender Egidijus Kavaliauskas (19-0-1, 14KO) and ‘The New’ Ray Robinson (24-3-1, 12KO), which opened up today’s ESPN fight card.
The bout was ruled a ‘MAJORITY DRAW’, which was a credible outlook of how the fight went.
Egidijus spent the whole night cutting off Ray Robinson, but not putting up a sustained enough effort to make his mark on the contest. Ray Robinson boxed very well, but couldn’t enforce those signature moments to gain any separation between him and his favored opponent coming in the bout.
THE COLD HARD TRUTH – It’s possible that this fight may slightly lower Egidijus’s ranking, if certainly not his stock slightly, while more attention to shift a little back to Robinson’s behalf in recognizing that he is still a pretty solid fighter.
All in all, neither had really staked the claim they needed to in garnering enough attention or intrigue of a fight with a presumed Terence Crawford, and neither is ready for that big stage just yet.
