This weekend, we will see the return of 2X Welterweight & current WBC Welterweight titlist ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter (29-2-1, 17KO) in the ring to take on a difficult task standing in his way, and that will be acclaimed Cuban Olympic Bronze-Medalist Yordenis Ugas (23-3-0, 11KO) for what is officially his 1st shot at a world Championship in the professional ranks.
Everyone knows what Porter is all about; he looks to wear you down physically, as well as mentally, and he likes to keep his opponent guessing, keeping them off-balanced so that he dictates the type of action that he wants to take in the ring. Despite the fact that his style isn’t smooth or easy to watch, it’s pretty common for people to lose sight that he can be a versatile boxer when need be, and for this match, I suspect he will have to diversify his attack to bring his green belt back home with him in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ugas, like many Cuban fighters, is a very well schooled boxer that possesses a high boxing IQ, who also has quality timing and footwork. With this being his first chance at a world title, we should expect the best out of the #6 WBC world contender, and particularly for this match-up, he is a very live dog in this fight, who could possibly turn the tides if he sticks to his advantages.
This fight will be aired Saturday, March 9th, live on FOX-PBC, and its undercard starts at 8 P.M. EST. Tune in to see this intriguing bout take place.
