With the vacant secondary IBO Super-Middleweight title on the line, former 2-time world titlist James ‘Chunky’ Degale (25-2-1, 12KO) will meet in a crossroads fight against Chris Eubank Jr. (27-2-0, 21KO) at the O2 arena in London, United Kingdom on Saturday, February 23rd.
Both are ranked Super-Middleweights who are at different points in their careers, looking to make a notable stand in a talent filled division.
THE COLD HARD TRUTH – Eubank Jr. is strong, brash, cocky, and has the blood of a Champion in his veins, but the manner in which he carries himself, you would think he accomplished becoming a world Champion and getting a taste at elite status in the sport, however he has been very slow to make the adjustments needed to advance his career, and has fallen short in his 2 opportunities in world title fights.
Eubank has recently made a change in trainers, substituting in Nate Vasquez. Nate has been brutally honest with Eubank in his technique and sloppy footwork, which is a positive going forward in getting the best out of the talented 29 year old.
DeGale’s best days are behind him, however the rate of regression initially thought after his loss to Caleb Truax in the 1st fight wasn’t as drastic as once thought, as he put forth a better, spirited effort in their re-match and winning that fight, getting his world title back.
For DeGale to get another shot at the elites, he has to shine here, and look good in a win. Eubank wants to secure a big win that has evade him thus far, and prove that he can defeat a consummate pro.
